Mazda Philippines Gives A Sneak Peek Of The Facelifted Mazda 6, More Powerful MX-5, and Refreshed CX-9

Bermaz Auto Philippines, the distributor of Mazda vehicles in the country, held a gathering of its 6 recognized car clubs, along with the media, to celebrate a sneak peek of the brand’s 2019 line-up. The Mazda Collection, which will be first shown to the public at the 2018 Philippine International Motor Show, features the 2019 facelift of the Mazda 6 executive sedan, MX-5 sports car, and CX-9 flagship SUV.

2019 Mazda 6 SKYACTIV-G and SKYACTIV-D

The heavily refreshed Mazda 6 sports a new, sharper, and more elegant design, drawing inspiration from the Mazda Vision Coupe that was first unveiled at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show. The said concept car had a multitude of design awards, and that same award-winning beauty makes it into the Mazda 6 line-up. The new grille, flanked by LED headlights with LED daytime running lights, as well as a new LED tail light designs, all give the Mazda 6 a much more premium and very beautiful design.

If you think the outside looks gorgeous, you have to step inside to see how beautiful the Mazda 6 really is. Almost the whole interior is new, and is complemented by a multitude of new, plush materials. The Mazda 6 features plush Nappa Leather, Sen Wood Trim, and Ultrasuede inserts in the dash and door trims, which easily makes the Mazda 6 the most premium car in its segment. The MZD Connect infotainment system’s screen also grows by size, while the gauges now feature a primary 7-inch TFT LCD gauge cluster display.

Added luxury features for the Mazda 6 include a new 360-degree camera, and ventilated front seats, which is very useful in our country where it’s hot all-year-round.

Under the hood of the Mazda 6 are a pair of revised engines. The SKYACTIV-D diesel engine features numerous improvements such as a rapid multi-stage combustion, and revised twin-stage turbochargers with variable geometry turbo. This results to a power bump, now producing 190 hp and 450 Nm of torque. The SKYACTIV-G gasoline engine, meanwhile, has a new piston shape and enhanced fuel injection, letting the engine now produces 190 hp and 252 Nm of torque. While power has been gained, fuel consumption has been reduced by as much as 20%, thanks to cylinder deactivation, which lets the engine run on two cylinder depending on the engine load.

2019 Mazda MX-5

The Mazda MX-5 has also been revised for this year, and the changes mainly lie under the hood. The Mazda MX-5’s SKYACTIV-G petrol engine has been revised, as it produces 181 hp and 205 Nm of torque. The redline has also been raised, now at 7,500 rpm, and combined with the new exhaust system for improved power delivery and sound, the new MX-5 should be even a more exciting car to drive.

Also new for the 2019 model year is an RF Club Sport variant (as shown), which features Recaro bucket seats and BBS wheels. A telescopic steering wheel has now been added, which has been a feature that many MX-5 owners have been clamoring for years. Lastly, automatic models now feature a rear view camera as standard.

2019 Mazda CX-9

Lastly, Mazda’s flagship SUV also receives a host of improvements, and these are mainly concentrated on the interior.

Now called the Signature model, the CX-9’s changes include a plush Nappa Leather interior, as well as a revised gauge cluster design, similar to the Mazda 6, which features a primary 7-inch TFT LCD gauge cluster display. The 2019 model also gains ventilated front seats, as well as a 360-degree camera system.
